Materials & Components
When you buy any new product, it’s always good to know what materials have been used in its manufacture. eMinnow is a quality made product, only using the best grade and safest materials, so that you can be happy with your purchase for many years to come.
The main eMinnow body is made from transparent ABS.
ABS is a vast the superior plastic product that combines the strength and rigidity of two polymers with the toughness of rubber. While the cost of producing ABS is roughly twice the cost of producing regular plastic, it is considered superior for its hardness, gloss, toughness, and electrical insulation properties.
The perfect performance shell for eMinnow.
The shell is made in two parts, and before the two parts are combined all the internal workings of eMinnow are assembled and then sealed inside the shell. No messy adhesives used, we use a special ultrasonic plastic welding machine to seal the two halves together. Ultrasonic plastic welding is the joining or reforming of thermoplastics through the use of heat generated from high-frequency mechanical motion. It is accomplished by converting high-frequency electrical energy into high-frequency mechanical motion. That mechanical motion, along with applied force, creates frictional heat at the plastic components’ mating surfaces (joint area) so the plastic material will melt and form a molecular bond between the parts, giving a 100% waterproof join.
Eyes: 3D Eyes
Our 3D holographic molded eyes give eMinnow lures that unmatched life-like look. All of our holographic eyes feature a black center dot with realistic reflecting surrounds, and are carefully secured in place with a specially made waterproof adhesive.
These are as close to real fish eyes as you can get and actually have real depth to them.
Tail: Silica Gel
The removable, replaceable and interchangeable tail on eMinnow is made from an ultra-safe food grade silicon plastic. This has a silky rubber feel to it that replicates movement of a real tail. One of the other benefits of using silicon plastic is that it resists temperatures below freezing and up to 450 degrees F. It is a man-made polymer, but instead of a carbon backbone like plastic, it has a backbone of silicon and oxygen. (Note that I’m using two different words here: silicone is the polymer and silicon, spelled without the “e” on the end, is an ingredient in silicone.) Silicon is an element found in silica, i.e., sand, one of the most common materials on earth. However, to make silicone, silicon is extracted from silica (it rarely exists by itself in nature) to create a new polymer. So silicone is a kind of hybrid material
Painting: Artificial Simulation 3D Print & Paint
Each and every eMinnow produced is hand-painted with hard cured holographic paint and foils that have been specifically designed to be a major attractant within predator fishes eye spectrum. Ensuring the right spectrum of color is vital to ensure that you have the best chance of catching that fish. We try to ensure that you have every possible benefit we can think of to help you catch the fish you are targeting, so once its curiosity has been captured by the movement and sound of eMinnow, the right spectrum of color and reflection will help seal the deal.
Hooks: VCM 9650 – X-Strong
eMinnow lures almost exclusively use hooks manufactured by VCM, a 200 year old French company that has been making specialty hooks since 1938. VCM has grown to be the global leader in treble hooks and supplies to over 70 countries around the world.
We tend to use the Round Treble hook which is a Predator fishing style.
The hooks are Round Bend, Non-Forged, Regular Barb, Hi-Carbon Steel with a bronze coating.
Micro Circuit Board: PCB
Inside every eMinnow is a tiny printed circuit board (PCB) that supports and electrically connects the electronic components using conductive tracks, pads and other features. These conductive tracks are etched from copper sheets laminated onto a non-conductive substrate.
Components are soldered on the PCB. Some of our PCBs may also contain components embedded in the substrate, in particular a preprogrammed microchip controller that programs the motor to swim in the random pattern of a real live fish.
PCBs can be single sided (one copper layer), double sided (two copper layers) or multi-layer (outer and inner layers).
PCB is an acronym for printed circuit board. It is a board that has lines and pads that connect various points together. In the example on this page, there are traces that electrically connect the various connectors and components to each other. A PCB allows signals and power to be routed between physical devices. Solder is the metal that makes the electrical connections between the surface of the PCB and the electronic components. Being metal, solder also serves as a strong mechanical adhesive.
All components in eMinnow are 100% recyclable and although eMinnow manufacturing specifications state that eMinnow should contain no lead products, minute trace amounts of lead could possibly be found in the circuit board.
